Crystalline Evaluation and Device Demonstration of Wide-Bandgap Semiconductors

研究概要／Summary

近年、長寿命で省エネが可能な固体発光素子（LED）は、一般家庭にも普及してきた。可視光LED材料には、単結晶の窒化物半導体が用いられている。窒化物半導体研究の進展に伴い、レーザ素子（LD）やハイパワーデバイスといった、LED以外の応用も見えてきている。しかし、新規デバイス作製には、結晶成長技術の向上が不可欠である。半導体中の結晶欠陥がデバイスに与える影響を調べると共に、これまでにない新規デバイスの実現を目指す。

His work focuses on device fabrication and evaluation using wide-bandgap semiconductors such as III-Nitrides and Oxides. Major aspects of his work include “vertical” high-power devices and light-emitting devices using GaN. In particular, he works on crystal growth of GaN and investigation of relation between various defects in GaN and the device performances, and demonstration of the novel and vertical GaN-based devices.
