研究概要／Summary

細菌は集団を形成すると,　同一遺伝情報を持つクローンであっても, 個性を発揮します。そのような個性は集団を形成・維持するのに関与しています。しかしながら，どうやって個性が発現し，その結果集団にどのような影響を及ぼすのかについてはあまり理解されていません。そこで，細菌間相互作用をキーワードに細菌の”個”と”集団”の関係の理解を目指します。細菌の集団化は感染症や環境浄化など幅広い分野で我々の生活と関係しているため，細菌制御技術への応用が期待されます。

Bacteria often exhibit heterogeneous gene expressions where the gene expression of the sub-population of the cells differs from the others. Still, how these gene expressions are controlled in individual cells and how they impact the whole population is largely unknown. My research aims to understand the relation between individual cells and group behaviors, especially by focusing on bacterial interactions. We also aim to develop new techniques to control these cell-cell interactions.
