研究概要／Summary

西アジアの先史時代社会を研究しています。これまでにトルコ、フランス、スペイン、イギリス各国の調査隊による発掘調査に参加してきました。石器の研究を専門としており、理化学分析による石材の産地同定、石材の加熱処理実験、石器の使用痕分析などを海外の研究者と共同でおこなうと同時に、社会学、文化人類学における社会理論を援用することで、経済的・技術的な視点だけでなく、認識論的な視点から物質文化の利用と人類社会発達の関係についての研究を進めています。

Main interest includes the use of material culture, particularly stone tools made of flint and obsidian, in early Neolithic societies in the Near East, where transition from hunter-gatherer to farming communities was first witnessed in the history of human being. It is approached from a viewpoint which places an emphasis not only on economic and technological development but also on cognitive aspects in early agricultural societies.
