研究概要／Summary

範疇文法(categorial grammar)と呼ばれる言語理論を用いて英語や日本語などの自然言語の文法を分析をすることに興味があります。範疇文法は、現在まで主に数学や論理学の分野で研究されてきましたが、我々の最近の研究により、理論言語学における主要な研究成果をほぼそのままの形で計算機に実装できる文法として形式化するための枠組みとして使える可能性が開けつつあります。言語学という文系の世界と数学・論理学という理系の世界をつなげて新しい研究の方向性を打ち出すための具体的な道筋が見えてきました。

My research focuses on developing formally explicit theories of natural language syntax and semantics. My current collaboration with Professort Robert Levine at the Ohio State University proposes a novel version of categorial grammar called Hybrid TLCG, which not only has a number of notable empirical consequences but is computationally implementable. Building on these preliminary results, we plan to advocate an interdisciplinary research program of providing formally rigorous underpinnings to major hypotheses in current theoretical linguistic research.
